Big events always have an impact also on the environment. Investing in events and in the experiences they create can be considered a much better choice for the environment and in helping slow the pace of climate change than buying a lot of material things. Here is another good reason for us to be proud of our event! Every one of us can, however, take a step even further and, by doing small deeds, reduce the burden of such an event on the environment. The volunteers play an important role in reducing the effects on the environment, as we will set an example to others, the spectators and everyone else involved in the event.
This will also allow you to save money at the same time. Favor recycled and recyclable materials as well as products that clearly state they are environment-friendly.
There will be recycling stations in all areas reserved for the volunteers and skaters at the venue. We kindly ask you to recycle all your paper, cardboard and biodegradable waste. It is also important that you recycle all your plastic drinking bottles. So please, discard your waste in the appropriate bins and encourage your workmates to do the same.
The minimum requirement as far as being environment-friendly is concerned is to write your own name on a paper cup at the volunteers’ recreation room and to use the same cup for drinking as long as it lasts. We also advise you to fill your drinking bottle several times with the best tap water in the world, as it saves a great many bottles and unnecessary deliveries as well as reduces the amount of waste that we produce.
Since all accreditation cardholders will also receive the regionally valid HSL Travel Card, we strongly recommend that you make use of it! Hartwall Arena is easily accessible by train, bus and tram. The HSL Journey Planner (www.reittiopas.fi) will assist you in planning your journey to the venue.
Should you be commuting to the venue from further afield than the metropolitan area, you might want to leave your car at one of the Park and Ride sites and continue your journey by train. You will learn more about the Park and Ride sites in the Helsinki region at the following address: https://www.hsl.fi/en/information/park-and-ride.
We thank you for your cooperation and effort! The environment and the future generations of young skaters appreciate it, too!
