Finland is known for innovative high-technology and in the opening event of The ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2017 in Helsinki, technology combines with athletic beauty to create something very unique. Elina Loueranta, designer at Biancaneve, is working with the light-technology company Neonelektro to create an innovative costume that depicts the theme of the opening event, light.
Special led lights and Swarovski crystals are combined with the base fabric to form the unique costume. This creates a perfect mirage of a star shooting through the dark. The modern costume which is worth thousands of euros has taken influence from Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl outfit. It will be seen on the talented acrobat Heidi Latva.
The designer of the costume is a former figure skater herself, for whom the sport is still close to her heart.
-It is incredible to be a part of this project! Both Figure skating and my home country Finland are close to my heart, and the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2017 in Helsinki combines them. I have been designing costumes for twenty years. As a child I fantasized about making costumes for figure skaters in the future so for me this really is a dream come true.
